In my line of work I am continuously dealing with high end accountants, either advising/consulting/brokering or managing the process from start to finish.

This quarter I have met a large  number of accountants motivated to buy into a Practice, often walking in with the mindset that they are ready to buy  or in some cases happy to bide their time until the Partner exits.

Then there are cases where there is a change of mindset and the realization of running a business can be overwhelming. The thought of leaving a fixed salary or income can be mind boggling for many.

Many will know as business owners that to run a business, you need to be 110% focused and initial set backs when setting up the business is part and parcel of the job.

When I ran my first marathon, I knew that I was going into the unknown!

There were many people in my circle of friends warning me to be weary of "hitting the wall”. I didn't understand what they meant until my body started to slowly shut down 5 km out from the finish!

It would have been easy to quit and throw it all in but I got to the finish because I prepared well not just physically, but most importantly mentally!

Whilst my quads, calves, hips started to weaken, my mind was still head strong!

I  had trained my mindset to battle  through the "hard” by envisaging various scenarios and how I would  react to them.

Just like in business, if you are an accountant thinking I want to buy into or run an Accounting Practice, then ensure you are 110% focused on the task ahead and be prepared for set backs!

Ensure you finish what you start and you are 110% focused on the task ahead!!

In the end the rewards and satisfaction are endless!!
